I love the focus here, both hers and yours. The dancers eyes and her body in such concentration and control. Your choice to include the dancer in the upper left adds much to the photo. The dancer is elevated to being part of something larger making the image speak of both cooperation and personal struggle.

The backlighting works well to wrap the dancer's profile in light, while you have sufficient front lighting to fill the shadows and balance both sides of her face. The result of the backlight tracing her neck and the light catching the rivers of sweat below, adds drama and accentuates her taunt muscles. The small areas of dark hair falling to black do not bother me, as you have plenty of detail in the remainder of the hair. If I were to suggest trying to brighten or tweak more detail from anything it would be her eyes and only very slightly.

In terms of composition, I like the geometric balance of her nipples, hands and eyes along with the triangle of her mouth nose and ear. Her costume dividing her upper body into smaller shapes adds to this geometry. The way in which you have captured the woman's body as a series of shapes and lines with your use of lighting and composition is most befitting of a dancer.

Bob, Fabrizio, Richard , David and Gord.

Gord, first welcome back, and thanks for your such a wide evaluation and commentary of this work, as always it is very well worded and expressing your impressions, referring as well to the composition..

The back light was very strong but the studio is long (rectangular), so I could maintain her form and details( not becoming a silhouette).I worked on her eyes selectively twice till I thought it fits the light and has enhancing her concentrated look. Thanks again.

I wonder how was the arctic experience ? ...;-))

You've really captured a classic pose here, Pnina, with perfect DOF. Another triumph of the dance. (Love her concentration, too)

Any true artist or athlete can make their skill or sport look easy to the masses. It's not often the viewer gets a birds-eye view of the labor and concentration involved. You've captured both very nicely here, Pnina.....bravo! BTW, Emily is my daughter's name. :-)

What an amazing capture...the tones and textures are just great...and the shimmer from the sweat beads are unbelieveable. I really like the framing of this portrait...particularly how you kept it close but still give us a sense of perspective by including a hint of other dancers in the background. Your dancer is very lovely and indeed you can tell she works hard at her craft...thanks for sharing this wonderful image. Jeff.

An admirable portrait. His face shows the concentratación, sweat shows the effort and hands show the fragility of the movements in dance Fantastic! Best regards.

Jack, concentration, hard work and timing is important as you so well know....

Christal, that was my aim here, to show the very hard work and concentration needed from the dancers, Emily is a very good dancer and a nice name ;-))

Keith, that is really nice

Jeff, thanks for finding the time, it is a nice impression of yours.

Anders, I will send your words to Emily ! Real nice to see you here.

Pep, good feedback, thanks very much.

Pnina, really good. In the stillness of this dancer we can foresee the ballet that was and that will be. Thanks for sharing, Giuseppe

this portrait speaks volume about dedication and effort that the lady invest in his dance...eye expression of concentration, body sweat...a geat capture Pnina...one of my preferred genre of photography where you show people dedicated to what they do without artifice...straight and direct with the power of simplicity...
