In Luci's Shadow

I really like this portrait. It is the kind of portrait I have hanging in my house.

I realize that you cannot move her any more to the center because of the light on her right toe. Her toe would be lost in the shadow. You could still crop a little off the right side to help balance the left and right sides of the photograph. There are only two major things I would have done differently.

Her right hand is in a very awkward position. It is not a feminine nor a graceful pose for her hand at all.

I would have moved the camera up slightly so I could shoot down on her a bit. This would have given her a little more head room to the upper horizontal bar across the window. I would have used that bar as the top crop line so that there wasn't open window space at the top of the photograph. You need a place for the viewer's eyes to stop at the top so that they do not leave the photograph.

I find myself at odds with Mark's comment about the right hand. I immediately recognize it as a dance "mudra" (that's what it is called here, no English equivalent that I know,) whence the thumb and index finger meet lightly in an O. The cropping suggestions will enhance the composition.

I like this photograph very much...
