Great shot of the full moon Richard.....love the colors....I got one not quite as detailed that was that shade a few years back and a few members of my family couldn't believe it was that color...but it was!!! Very nice work!!

Thank you, Michael, Sumon, Jean-Marc and Gail! I didn't have my tripod with me but I couldn't pass this up, so I kept the VR on, pushed up the iso and braced myself against a deck post. The secret seems to be shooting these at dusk...while the sky is still blue and then bringing the exposure down in post.

Best regards,

Dick

Dick... Great shot and with the 80-400 at f/8 again. I'm still watching that lens :-)... Mike

Well done ...now this is something that the 18-200 couldn't match, however good it is:-)) You've positioned the Moon well in the frame and managed to capture a great amount of detail in it....Great work and Regards

Thank you, Mike and Keith! This would have been sharper with a tripod. But, I am still amazed at the detail that the 80-400 can achieve at 400mm. It's best at f8 which suits this kind of shot well.

Have a good day!

Very powerful, Dicky. I have tried so many times to capture the moon, but keep getting a halo around it. I guess i'll leave it to the people who know how - such as yourself. Well done, my friend. Regards, Lawrence.

Thank you very much, Lawrence! I discovered, quite by accident, that if you take these shots at dusk, while the sky is still blue, and then bring down the exposure in post, the exposure of the moon and the sky come into balance. If you shoot this with a pitch black sky, the tendancy is to overexpose the moon. My work computer is dead...they are working on a replacement. And, I'll be at Squaw Lake every weekend...starting tonight, where there is no internet. So, if you don't hear much from me, know that I'm still thinking of you:-)

Have a good weekend!

Thank you, Cynthia! My computer seems to have been resurrected...I'm holding my breath:-) These shots are fun and are a good learning experience.
