mjferron 12,527 Posted June 19, 2009 I think it's the near perfect symmetry that catches my eye here. Your timing couldn't have been better. As a huge fan of B&W the lack of color doesn't bother me a bit and I would encourage more photographers to give it a try. Nice catch on this. Link to comment
Art X Photography 1 Posted June 20, 2009 the timing of this shot is perfect, with good symmetry and clarity (as well as DoF). B&W adds another dimension to this however without seeing the colour version its hard to assess if it's better.. the technical capture of this gull is very good, well done Paal Link to comment
angkordave 0 Posted June 20, 2009 Its amazing that an otherwise common bird species and be shot in such a way that the bird looks so dramatic. I love the symmetric composition and the impression that the bird was on the attack. If it had been my shot; I would have darkened down the background just a touch more; to give greater emphasis to the white bird; but that is not a major point as it is the out of focus water or sky is just visible. I will look at seagulls rather differntlly from now! Link to comment
philip_coggan 0 Posted June 22, 2009 That sure is one mean looking bird! What it feels like to fly - all that soaring and swooping is fine, but this photo shows there's real work involved. All this makes it a great and original shot.It makes me feel what it means to BE a bird! All those feathers and muscles to control - flying a 747 is a piece of cake. Link to comment
raymondborg 0 Posted June 24, 2009 Impressive capture and excellent timing. Very good black & white tones. Would prefer a slightly darker sky to enhance the bird. Congrats. Link to comment

Guest Guest Posted August 26, 2009 Brett Cole http://static.photo.net/v3graphics/member-status-icons/3rolls.gif, Jun 16, 2009; 11:34 a.m.by Paal BentdalI think what disconnects me from this image more than any is it seems an almost rejection of nature in its treatment, which for a nature photo is unsettling. Birds fly in the endless void of the sky but there is no sense of a sky even, and there is no color, no context, it could be a bird stuffed in a museum except for the wing blur.Brett, I totally agree, and I had to look at the shot again after you mentioned the wing blur, which looks more to me like a focus problem. There was not enough "motion blur" to suggest motion. But this is what the public considers a great photo.Who am I to complain?Bill P. Link to comment
hakajala_abbagish 0 Posted September 5, 2009 Amazing. It's like the bird is asking you to come to him, haha. Link to comment
