MarkNorthrup 0 Posted April 15, 2009 Many of you will recognize the resemblance of this image associated with another well known photographer. This mother wanted something similar. I would appreciate hearing your critiques on this effort. Link to comment
brent_blankinship 0 Posted April 16, 2009 Mark, not sure I like the cropping of the head and hand, may have been better having the face (although I understand how that may cause a problem too). It is also my opinion that the wrinkled and light colored fabric is a little distracting. One last thing, the baby in my opinion covers up the mother in such a way as the mother almost looks unnatural (kinda like she is missing parts). Just offering my humble opinion and realize I am by no means a professional. Link to comment
lennart goldmann - geneva 0 Posted April 16, 2009 If I can help, it would be: don't crop out the face, create a diagonal instead of horizontal (body position), straighten out the bedsheets, use low lighting to enhance the body shapes. I'll try the same in a few months, when the baby of one of my models is born, so thanks for the inspiration! Regards Lennart Link to comment
MarkNorthrup 0 Posted April 16, 2009 Thanks to all for your comments! I've had mixed feelings about this one. Including the subjects head really wasn't an option in this case. (Client's wishes!) I agree with the positioning of her hands - it looks awkward and unnatural. In hindsight I wish I'd had her use her hands to hold the baby's feet closer in to it's body. I do wish I had the opportunity to do this one over with different (lower) lighting and background. I'll just have to see what I can do in photoshop to make the image stand out. I'll try to post a new and improved version! Link to comment

davidmccracken 2 Posted April 17, 2009 It got my attentione and so guess I should say something. I don't think the head being cropped for upload is an issue. I like the idea of the heads being at opposite ends of the frame. I might have tried different lighting. As it is the cloth she is lying on seems to have more character than the main subjects. Being honest, I am not sure if I like it or not but it is most certainly interesting. Link to comment
