Love this image in every way. I love the sharpness, the lighting, the texture of the background, the expression on her face and the relaxed hand.

Great great job!

Fiona,

Very Beautiful girl - Nice lighting - Good right arm position - Her right hand is well posed (very feminine and graceful - I like how you have positioned the right arm to lead the viewer's eyes back to your subject's face - Great expression - Thank you for not having her look at the camera! - I do like the background (the colors work well with the rest of the colors in the photograph (It could have been thrown out of focus, but it works very well as is - no distraction to the subject at all) - Your backlight separates her from the background very well (great on her pretty hair) - Her make-up works well in this image - I like the way you have the upper right area of the background go dark to emphasize her blond hair - I know you left more space above her than what would normally be there because of the large space in front of her, but you could either move in closer or crop to give her a little less head room.

You have a split profile (her nose touches her far cheek (this causes the bridge of her nose to cut across her right eye) - If you would turn her head slightly to her left you would loose the split profile and achieve Rembrandt lighting (2 pluses) - You have a lot of space to the right of her (some of that could be cropped - you have cut into the couch on the left of her, so you could do the same on her right) - The animal striped pillow and her striped slacks draw my attention away from her face - You have cropped her left arm at her elbow ("rule" - never crop a person at a joint - it tends to make them look like an amputee) - She is looking a little right to where her head is pointing (If she was looking where her head is pointing you might be able to get a catch light in her eye - this would be taken care of if you have her move her head as I suggested earlier and you would get two catch lights).

Well done!

Hi Fiona,

I love where you're going with this portrait, though I do agree with Mark on two or three counts (especially as regards cropping in from the right).

I really dig the gaze and the overall feel of this image. Very nice job.
