Patiti Point

This is my first attempt at this style of long exposurephotography, please be gentle. Taken just before sunrise at a placecalled Patiti Point, a popular surfing spot just down the road.

Very nice. I've never seen purple water before. Was that just an effect of the exposure? Did you get some orange in there a little later when the sun started throwing rays over the horizon?

Thank you so much for your kind comment. The purple water is, I'm assuming, the product of the natural colouration of the water (in this case a pale turquoise blue) combined with the heavily tinted red/orange light of dawn, which as you suggested did become more prominent as time wore on. Of course once the sun came over the horizon line the intensity and directionality of the light changed the aesthetic of the image completely.

The effect is more heavily pronounced here in this processed image than in the original unprocessed exposure. I've always enjoyed the ethereal quality of long exposure water photography as it adds an element of fantasy and unreality to an image, something that I feel is sometimes complimented by highly saturated and vibrant colours.
