hopsage 0 Posted April 5, 2009 A very hot day in mid August, with hardly a cloud in the sky all day. Returning from an evening walk from our camp to nearby Flower Dome,we were treated to a brief show of color, accompanied by a half-dozenor so marmot whistles. Link to comment

orias 0 Posted April 6, 2009 A classic vertical landscape composition. A nice flowering bush for foreground interest and colorful mountains in the background. The scan might have blocked up the shadows a little too much in this web presentation. Hopefully the slide is fine. Is it my imagination or is the full moon not in the right position based on the light/shadows of the mountain? Link to comment
hopsage 0 Posted April 7, 2009 Peter and David - Thanks for the visit and the comments. The color was what really drew me to this scene originally, although spotting the rising moon was an added bonus.David - The original transparency has very little detail in the fir trees (which I assume are the "blocked shadows" to which you refer). A basic consequence of the split ND filter. I think that to bring them out, I would have had to use some form of HDR, which is very difficult with slides. I might be be able to pull out a little more detail with a higher scanner gain, but honestly, I kind of like the trees as they are! Regarding the moon: it was just a day or so before full, and the sun set was pretty much directly behind me. Link to comment

naturegirl99 0 Posted April 15, 2009 John, another beauty. Love the retained detail and colour in the foreground. Please don't be mad--I just wonder if the image could be tilted a tad to the right. I do realize you were on a mountain slope, but the line created by the hillside and then echoed by the line created by the fading light in the sky leaves me every so slightly dizzy. I didn't want to post my proposed image as I have limited tools here at work and would have to remove the frame and most of your signature. Just a humble suggestion. Link to comment
hopsage 0 Posted April 16, 2009 Thanks, Nancy. Actually, I'd like to see what you have in mind: please feel free to post a version, with trashed frame and/or signature! Link to comment
