I think leaving the small blurred object in the foreground was a great idea, as it brings me right to those eyes. One of my few 7/7s. Great work! Link to comment

stp 6 Posted January 21, 2010 I always marvel at this kind of photograph, what few there are. The intensity in the eyes and position of the wings are perfect, and the shadow on the snow adds an important touch. I imagine these birds are lured in with captive prey released on the snow, just as spotted owl researchers bring in owls with captive mice. Otherwise, the odds of being in the right place at the right time for an animal like this are incredibly small. It's a wonderful photograph of a natural phenomenon that most of us don't get to see.
