harrylichtman 0 Posted February 12, 2009 Mark - A delicate mix of textures and great lighting. The large trees on the right seems to pull me out of the frame a little- maybe it's the far right one that is partially out of the shot. Exposure right on. Maybe it's my monitor, but the clouds look like they might have a touch too much cyan? Your eye is much better than mine at telling a little too much of this or that. Those snow capped peaks are mighty inviting, though. Was wondering if you had any shots of just the green hill in contrast with the mnts behind-also, the ditch? might make any interesting lead to the mnt vista behind. Just compositional ideas-not really relevent to the image at hand. My wandering mind. Also, saw your Highlands shot-fantastic mood and capture of a fleeting moment. Love the way the cloud color is reflected in the rocks. In the east, this kind of lighting produces fantastic color on already vibrant fall foliage at sunrise and sunset. jeff.grant 0 Posted February 13, 2009 Mark, this is excellent as usual. Is this a straight shot, or have you done a blend of two from one or what? Link to comment
whydangle 0 Posted February 13, 2009 Thank you Gabriel, Hussein, Ricardo, Harry, Giussepe and Jeff. Harry, I could not get the comp I wanted, placing those trees to the left; the culvert was what had my attention. I actually agree that the tree does lean out instead of in. Your other suggestions are good and perhaps I will return here and try then out. What can't be seen is the barbed wire fence I would have to scale to get other comps. That said, I have jumped many a fence to get the shot right, so I will be back. Jeff, this is from one exposure, but I did deepen the sky a little to balance the exposure, basically made a selection of the sky area, added a layer mask, set it to multiply, lowered opacity to about 20 and then did some blending in where haloes were visible. Straight out of the camera would have been much brighter and flatter. Harry, there may be some residual cyan in the clouds, I wanted to keep the sky cool to have some snap against the yellows of the field. Maybe too much? Link to comment
Not Here 93 Posted February 13, 2009 Wow, another one! Fantastic landscape photography. I'm still partial to "My Sanctuary", for no particular technical reason, perhaps the grandeur of scale. Regardless, I can just sit and ogle these for hours. You've transported me there with these shots... Mike Link to comment
whydangle 0 Posted February 13, 2009 Mike, that is a complement like no other I have received. To say these images transport you there (or here) means alot to me. It is my hope when I am shooting to make an image that someone can look at and slowly dissolve right into the scene. These last dozen or so I have taken have been immensely satisfying ( a dozen from probably a couple hundred exposures). I think you missed one or two from recent postings. I agree, "My Sanctuary" is something special, and its only about 35 miles from here. I will be shooting that area feverishly when the wildflowers come in. Thanks so much for your very kind words!!! kurt2006 0 Posted March 11, 2009 Mark, it's wonderful that have been able to photograph some of these remote places after snow has fallen low on the hills. I have been very frustrated this winter with an impossible work schedule and endless impediments to getting outside with my camera, but your work really inspires me. I lack patience to be out early for the best time of day and feel pressure to drive, drive, drive. This photo shows what you can get by waiting for the right moments, early morning before the snowfall has melted on the hills. Link to comment
