Beautiful work. The angle of her body and net over her face really makes her look like a dragonfly.

Pnina, l love the soft,subtle tones here. This has a very gentle, soothing mood. The transparent fabric in motion is captured so beautifully. You have created a feeling of delicate, light, movement, like the fluttering of angel wings.

Fred, interesting that you saw two in the beginning, I understand why, as it is the play of light. I wonder as well, as you are helping me sometime with the English language...you have used the word "constrained" is not the word's meaning "forced" (to be in that veil), so" tear-ing" can mean a parallel action, like forced to be in and trying to be free explanation? I will be glad to know if I'm wrong, Fred, thanks for your commentary and help.

Yes, being constrained is like being held back, or jailed, or forced. I see that part of the equation. I don't see so much the expression of breaking free. For me, there is a bit of sense of breaking free in the highlighting (which is uplifting), but mostly I am left with the feeling of constraint, control, lack of freedom, and that is especially because she looks down, which to me says the control over her is powerful. Where does the freedom get expressed visually?

 

You said above "cropping tightly was my intention here , because I wanted to emphasis her wish to release herself from her veil."

 

If the veil represents the grip on her, that she is not free, and you've emphasized that with the tight cropping (which I agree takes away power and energy from her, and it also opposes the movement of her and the veil), and to me another symbol that she is not free is that she looks down, how are you expressing the release, the freedom? That's the part that's not playing for me here.

Pnina, I love the mystery produced in these images with the veil. The texture of the material is captivating - it diffuses the light in the background and blurs the body outline in a very attractive way. The light here is excellent anyway..

You have captured here the elusive quality of movement. The light and that the veil. the tilting of the head the raised hand they all contribute to an aesthetically pleasing image.Well done.

Fred, thanks for your follow up and explanation , I think that "tear" ( like in crying, and like trying to tear constraint in ones life) its two meanings explains my feeling (titling it), as similar, metaphorically , to what you felt :

As it is a metaphor, I felt like looking down was shading a tear, and on the same time her hands action on the veil, were tearing unseen constraints.... I find it hard to explain.... But thanks for your help and impressions.

 

Roger, thank you as well. I find different moments in that dance that are evoking a lot of thoughts in me, and are triggering me to compose and title them as I feel them. I'm glad when my feelings are touching /communicating with the viewers.

Beautiful and enchanting piece of work Pnina. The delicate veil surrounding her has a comforting feel, almost protective in a way.

I like how the motion-blur in her hands, arms and even in her lower torso really conveys a sense of panic -- a desperation to escape the confines of the veil. The image really works wonderfully because of how solid that fabric veil feels. I am surprised that the arms can be so blurred and yet the veil feels so very solid and almost heavy. The soft contrast B&W works to continue the mood I feel when looking at the subject and the motion.

 

I really think this is one of your best Pnina -- nicely put together and everything seems to support one emotional response.

Ian, I'm glad to read your comentary, as we talked before, that dance photos can be evaluated as any other photo, relating to the context, feelings , technical components ,etc. So I was really pleased that you did it in that way and thanks for both your interesting impressions, and feeling about the veil and body role in this one, as expressing a mental situation.

Enticing picture, the composition is excellent, and the way you chose to shoot the scene with a long exposure is magnificent. All in all, a superb photograph, congratulations!

the veil movement and shape is what srike me most here...I like he crop and tone which support the mood superbly...expressive and intimate is what comes to my mind...not easy to go together and to convey in an image and that's what I like....
