Wonderful texture from the stockings and beautiful form from the pose. The lighting is good. The top knee seems a tad bright from my monitor.

Marc, this doesn't work for me. I don't think that the angles, lines and pattern combine to produce a pleasing whole, and I have no idea how to improve it.

The contortions are a little disconcerting, as Jeff points out. But my first reaction was more like wow, as recognition of the form arrived. And that little red dot on the foreground leg makes it for me.

Thanks. Interesting comments and thanks for your honesty, Jeff... By the way, Leigh, I'm not sure whether the word "contortion" in English means exactly the same as in French - i.e a movement that's difficult to achieve... But just for info, this is in fact a pose most of us take about every day while watching TV...:-) Nothing accrobatic there in fact... But it seems strange of course because the body was left in darkness... I completely understand that this may not work for you or anyone else, Jeff. As far as I am concerned, I was glad to include it in my "Net Works" legs close-up series, because I feel the form together with these weird stocking colors and the strangeness of the whole thing actually fascinate me... But then again, I have a very disturbed mind - as you know by now -, especially so lately...:-) Cheers.

It appears to be a very dangerous constrictor of some sort--but very beautiful.

Marc, I think that this is a work of pure genius. I love the muted colors and intricate forms. It is one of your very best, I think.

the pattern of the tights itself is very interesting and in my opinion, adds to the element of mystery in this picture. i am going to put out my neck on the line and say that the lighting is not really rivetting here. it lacks something. it is not poor lighting but it does not stand out either.

I love the composition, patterns, etc.

I agree that the lighting is not "pleasing" to me, and the WB looks a bit cold.

I like the lighting and composition, I think the beauty dish has been used very creatively here.
I feel that it's strengths are the apparent complexity of what is in fact a simple and fairly natural arrangement of the legs, the shapes work well to my eyes. And I like the way that light fall off has been used to good effect, to crop what we actually see rather than what is available to be seen.
Personally I like 'Departure' in this series even more, but that's just personal taste.

She's got legs, she knows how to use them

She never begs, she knows how to choose them

She only lets you wonder how to feel them

Would you get behind them if you could only find them

She's my baby, she's my baby

Yeah, it's all right

It's very Escher-esque, and the tones and sharpness, as well as the lighting, make it one heck of an nice abstract. I believe the word in French is 'superb', pronounced suu PEAR, I do belive also.

I now see your photo skills might rival your critique ones. ;/)

Well… I’d like to thank the Elves for this second POW. I mostly do portrait and fashion work nowadays, but that’s why I am even more interested by this specific choice for this discussion. This “Net-Works” series was started in 2005 and is still “running”, if I may put it this way. :-) In fact, I had arranged another model to continue this series, precisely, this thursday - april 8th. So your comments will serve as an additionnal motivation for this next session.
I take such pictures on and off - for my own (twisted) pleasure of course, and I’m hoping, at some point, to have the appropriate number of legs to run to an art gallery, or perhaps publish a wall calendar. But so far, the only bit of feedback I got about this series was from models and from photo.net. And so, I see this week as a great opportunity for me to find out what people think of such images. So please do feel free to also post critical comments in this thread ! Many thanks for all the previous and future comments. I'll drop by again of course. Meanwhile, here are some technical data about the studio set-up and equipment used. Best regards.

It tends to become an abstract. People either like or dislike them. There is very little in-between. I like that it does keep the eye moving over it & does hold the viewer's interest. Technically it's very nicely lit & carried out. Yes, Marc. Contortion means the same. Congrats on another POW

Thoughtful and stylish. A great POW. Layers of education and interest are added by Marc's comments, set-up diagram, and desire to share.

It's hard to understand any of the negative comments here. At least the photograph got recognized for excellence, and high numeric ratings. I think there may be a bias on photo.net against images that fall into what is normally the fashion category- which too rarely gets recognized for all the work and artistry that often goes with the genre.
What I like best about it is that it suggests an entire category; leggings give an entire dimension to the idea of rendering a lady's legs less sexual, but at the same time preserve the possibilities for celebrating abstract beauty and female form, without- as in this case- being a cliche, too revealing, or suggesting anything obscene.
Also, this is a square, a neglected compositional tool; and the black background once again helps to emphasize form, light, and gesture. Everything in this photo works for me.

I'm surprised no one mentioned the camera! I'm glad you are getting beautiful images out of your Kodak. I own one and in the studio it is amazing, with a little patience and good lighting this system is really great, without it, well, that's another story. I think the pattern works well and the part that's in the dark ads to the frame. Can you tell me what lens and lighting you used/
