rarmstrong 0 Posted January 10, 2009 Tim, this is a beautiful scene. What were you hoping for with "better looking bokeh"? To me, it would seem to be tough to get better bokeh in the background with the birds this far away even if your lens was wide open. You got a wonderful shot! I would be thrilled with this one! tholte 16,706 Posted January 10, 2009 Thanks for the comments! Richard, I was trying to shoot some bokeh when the damn geese flew by. Like I said in my post, you can never get good bokeh when you are trying to. Did Roy DeCarava, Ernst Haas, Alfred Stieglitz, Mario Giacomelli or Harry Calahan ever worry or think about bokeh? I don't think so! Link to comment
gordonjb 10,860 Posted January 10, 2009 Tim; I would try a different lens, the bokeh from this one looks too much like clouds and water. Two weeks to go until I get out of this arctic cold for a week of diving in the sunny Caribbean, I'm counting the days. Link to comment
wmhoodphoto 0 Posted January 10, 2009 Beautiful image Tim. Yeah, those damn geese'll mess up your photos every time! Link to comment
Wayne Melia 6,030 Posted January 10, 2009 It's an omen. Forget the bokeh; concentrate on the flying south. Thanks for sharing both photo and message. Link to comment
tholte 16,706 Posted January 10, 2009 Gordon, make sure you bring your lap top so you can send us some beach photos while we are in below zero weather OK? Link to comment
gordonjb 10,860 Posted January 10, 2009 I brought it last year but this time I have more scuba gear so we'll have to see. You may have to wait until I'm back home and we can both look at them while we freeze our butts off. I just got back in from walking the pooches, minus 12 C. and beautiful sunshine, it was nice to feel the sun on my face. Link to comment
dacamera 0 Posted January 11, 2009 This would be great without the geese but they certainly are a fabulous addition. Simon Link to comment

yannik_hay 1 Posted January 13, 2009 Hello Tim, this a beautiful sunrise and the geese certainly add to the composition and mood. As for the bokeh, your dof is not shallow enough and I would treat it with some little noise reduction. I like very much the deep orange colour of the sun setting on the bottom right side and the blue sky above the clouds. Very well done. Cheers. Link to comment
