BUG?

Can someone tell me what this is.

This bug is about the size of a quarter, and very hairy. Would appreciate some imput on what it is. thanks ...smile,,,

One of my co-workers is from the valley and he says he was stung by these when he was a kid... they secrete some kind of something that burns.

Thank you so much for the info. I am so glad I did not touch it. Once it was discovered, it rolled up into ball, and I had to wait for it to unroll, so I could get a shot of it. ...Nice to know, I have lived here all my life and this was a first sighting for me. thanks again...smile,,,
