Very clever the way in which the movie advert and the street scene merge. Initially it appeared that the lampost was a part of the billboard image.

Pnina, this is my favourite of the current three. I very much like the color and the composition, but particularly the light which fades gradually from bottom right to top left.. The reflections and points of punctuation to an already very attractive image.

Gorgeous lighting, soft and edgy mood of whimsy, and smart composition, jungle fun in one's urban backyard.

Your view reminds me a bit of the paintings on bomb shelters/teen hangouts at the kibbutzim because of the way it tames potential danger, turning it into child-friendly fun and lore.

All of you,for your interpretation.I understand that my idea did not pass through to my viewers. So it is my fault of course.

I have lately helped refugees from Darfur and Sudan, that run away to my country. It was hard to exprience their suffering ,from close enough

Passing at Time Square, I sow the two advertisements one not far from the other.

THE QUESTION IS... Looked like a scream, with covered eyes!, and than I saw the worried eyes in this one, and the writing on the R side ESCAPE AFRICA .... I have added the question mark !

As for me the two were metaphorically connected to what is going on in Africa, the genocide, the mass of refugees, and no much help from the world.

Donna, you were close enough, as you helped me to help them. II WW is not very far, it all connects to me and my people's collective memory. Also the elections in America while I was visiting.

I wonder if the metaphor will work now. Thanks

Once explained, it makes sense. I think the issue is that these Disney/Pixar movies (with the exception of Wall-E) take real issues and dump sugar on them until all you taste is the sweet. For me, Disney and Darfur live in different parts of my head. Your explanation gave the link. Thanks.

Very good shot and symbolic image,Pnina. You are right. There is a churning of hunger, poverty and despair in all the countries of the world. Yet, it appears we have become indifferent and selfish.

Jeff touched upon what keeps me from relating to this image as being about the ongoing atrocities in Darfur and the Sudan. The Disney sensibility is ingrained to such a degree and is so incongruous with contemplating genocide, that I still cannot make the inference work.

I understand your point of view, and Disney is not connected to the situation in Africa, what brought me to think of it, was my association, seeing the worried eyes and the title"Escape Africa", which many people are doing it right now.

The open mouth in the previous one that can be a scream as well... and this one near it, brought the metapheor, (being close to the refugees from there.)

Probably hard to understand how the human brain is making the links.....

It's a luscious photo, but without your explanation I would never have made the connection. I can see it once you expressed it. I don't think it diminishes the photo any because nobody made the emotional connection you intended. Very good work.

And thank you for what you do to relieve suffering wherever you can. You are a good person for sure.

I like the metaphore and your guidance on these 2 shots. I didn't initially connect to it like Jeff, but I like the scared look in the faces of these characters with the idea that they are venturing into new worlds and experiences. They seem to be stopped by the lamp post in the middle of Time Square, which makes it interesting also.

Dave, thank you my friend. Just to let you know that I was not the only one helping the refugees. I was in charge because of my role in the women org.,but all our clubs members were part of this help, and many individual Israeli that took, and are taking part in helping. I don't think I have to be praised for this....;-))

Marjorie, I know it is not a natural connect.... It still hits a voice in me....

Bob,Thanks for your seeing it as" venturing into new worlds and experiences". I just could not help it.....

Maurizio, thanks as well.

Pnina, my first reaction to this image was based on the terrified looks of the animals in front. I figured the story behind your shot had something to do with fear. Now that I've read your commentary, the whole scene becomes horribly sad. Wonderful work.

You've got it, a great bit of comic work. The addition of the simple lamp-post and the reflections turns an ordinary marquee announcement into a funny comment on our times. A really good artist just has to nudge reality a little to change or challenge our perception of things.

Are you able to take photographs of the refugees you help? I know that sometimes it is very difficult to take pictures when you are immersed in an activity, but it might be cathartic for you and it might also be an amazing way both to express your feelings about the matter and bring to light the plight of the people you are dealing with.

I was recently in a personal situation where I made a determination that I would not photograph it, because it felt intrusive. I will probably always regret it, on a certain level, but I have the memory ingrained in my mind and heart, and that will not dim for me.

Daily, you are right, but I have connected with him through my association , imagination and reality.

Liz, thanks for seeing the fear in their eyes and connecting to what I saw in it.It helps when members find the link to my point if view

Jack, you are doing it as well in your own way, "our perception of things" is very much connected to the different directions of our life, and can be a trigger to link, what are not naturally related....

Fred, it is a good question and not a simple answer. There are some problems, many of them are not legal ,and don't want to be photographed, you can not photo the children. What I could photo is this

http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=7087786.

Also it is not easy to break their privacy. I was not active lately because of my traveling and preparations as well as my performing art groups. I try to start again soon. The experience is what stays engraved in me.

We are busy as well in helping the Ethiopian Jewish community that immigrated to Israel, and also an Israeli children club, that are having social family and personal problems, I have a lot of photos I have photographed them, FOR THEM,( we did a project and still do preparing photo albums ,that they are doing the work of editing their memories bringing some photos from home and we are bringing the materials and photographing them and printing the photos for their use in the albums , now .) but I can not use them of course.

Thanks for asking, Fred

Pnina, I got this immediately. Great and important artistic statement. For me, it speaks to how commercialized America is, and how we think of the world only in what is presented to us through the media and Hollywood. It's very sad how many Americans know the intimate details of celebrity goings-on, but very little about the state of the world and people suffering in it. Wonderful photo, and I agree with the previous posters about the technicalities of the photo- very nice lighting, composition, etc.

Thanks for connecting to it. I saw that you are a young woman and mother. Your age group is our future,I think that part of the help, and solutions, is being aware first.!

I was especially glad to read and get your point of view.Thank you !
