Hand held shots of birds can often provide for stunning photos. Some of my favorite bird pictures that I have taken were han held using a 2x teleconverter and 210mm zoom lens and 100 speed film. The shutter speed olf the photo is the reason for the sharpness although you trade off with the contrast. All said and done this is a very ellegant photo.

I humbly apologize if I'm wrong, but has this photograph been posted before? If it hasn't, then sometime in the last year, there has been a photograph very similar. Maybe I'm just suffering from severe deja vu.

What a powerful image! Beautifully composed and printed, I like the moment of truth you've frozen as the waves are about to crash over the herons. Will they escape? Is this just an example of the dance of nature? Thank you for sharing it!

Great shot Brian! While contemplating purchasing the combo of the 100-400+1/4,I happened across your photo while reading in the forum. I concur with your findings in regards to being able to hike, bike or whatever with this lens as opposed to lugging around one of the other behemoths.

Thanks for assisting me in making up my mind.

These kind of pictures can only be captured in paintings. So magical and mystical!!! I have to look at this pic for a long time before i'm convinced that it's not painting.

Brian, would still be a great shot even without the bonus of the right hand bird. Soft, low contrast light allows details in both the bright and dark areas. Big bird's shape well defined by the white water. Truly outstanding result. Best, LM.

This is a really beautiful nature shot. The left heron stands out against the backdrop of the water. The right one adds balance to the shot. The light and dark of the herons' wings add a wonderful contrast.

Brian, you've heard it from me before, but let me add it in writing here - I haven't found a photo yet on photo.net that I find more impressive and riveting than this one. Congratulations.

Its Ok Mr. Dummett,

As far as the negative comments you made about the Canon IS lens...Way back when, they probably said the same thing about the invention of the Auto Focus, High Speed Film, the new fangled Electronic Flash and of course the Monopod. Guess there IS always something to Itch about. ;)

Hey, Brian...You The Man!!!
