I have really enjoyed viewing all of your PNW images. Although I have lived in Seattle for over 30 years, I have not yet visited Yakima or the Palouse areas. It certainly appears that you chose a perfect time to visit there and you have shown me what I've missed out on by not going there myself. I should have ample time to visit there myself from 2010 onwards. Thanks for showing off the beauty of the other half of Washington State.

Wow, Christal!

Don't know how I overlooked this one, surely I have been here since October! At any rate, this is a fabulous scene, and perhaps my favorite from your fine and growing portfolio. There is nothing here I don't love, especially the contrast between the angry sky and mellow grass.

Best regards,

Tammy

Another great landscape, Christal. The dramatic clouds next to the sunlit grass makes for a winning contrast. It evokes the wide open prairie spaces, as does the punctuation mark of the wooden barn slightly off center. For me a real strong point in both images is the wide DOF with sharp focus from foreground to distance.

I love the simplicity and the composition, amazing clouds and even more amazing that they didn't produce any rain...love the golden hills and the rustic building...beautifully done Christal...you have a great eye.

I am on a Mac too and I use Spyder for calibration, I'm not sure that that was what you were referring to in your comment re: monitors and calibration. I recently discovered that my images sometimes look different after posting depending on which browser I'm using, between Firefox, my preferred browser, and Safari. Particularly the magenta's and greens, which tend to look washed out...:) Linda

Dear Christal, Thank You for Your comment! It is highly appreciated from someone who is an amazing artist herself !

I love e.g. these images from the fields. This one has an fantastic composition, the 2 dominating colors are making it a very ´catchy´ photograph, it takes all my attention. The dramatic mood is genuine and I could imagine having this image on my wall.

thanks , cheers Jana

Hey Christal,

Thanks for the comment on Mantanuska. I couldn't pick up the color cast you were talking about, but there is a reason I failed some of the color tests way back in first grade. I think it's called a secondary deficiency. Anyways, when I error, it seems to be towards red. Appreciate the heads up. It was ironic to get a comment from you today. I just did the drive from Lewiston to Pullman and the Palouse is just starting to show signs of green. When it starts to sprout and everything turns green it magic. My favorite time. Anyway, I just happened to think of you, knowing your a fan of the Palouse. Hope your well-Take care-Jim

So much has been written about this already that I can only add my compliments for this unusual and impressive capture, Christal.  Photography allows one to capture and preserve impressive moments like this -- and you did a marvelous job at that!

It has been far too long since I have browsed through portfolios. I am so glad I came upon this one. This image is absolutely stunning and it is beautifully composed and processed.

Best always,

Debra

I just noticed this one in the thumb nails as I was commenting on another, and had to come back to this one to add my compliments to the long list of well deserved ones.  Just to have seen a sight like this must have been breath taking, to capture it so well was a great bonus!

Superb!  7

Best Regards

That's the McTyre Barn.  I grew up here and my father, Don Hart, farmed this land for 40 years.  There is an old pull-combine in the collapsed part of the shed that was in use when I was a small boy.  It is build with hand-hewn pegs and square forged nails.  I found this because I'm looking for an image to put on the cover of my forthcoming book of poetry, Boy Singing to Cattle, that is about the Palouse and my father.  Very cool to see it here and get the artistic attention it deserves.

I'm afraid I've been absent from Photo.net for a short time, so I'm just now seeing these comments.  Thanks for digging this one out of the archives and 'giving it a little love'.  Greatly appreciated.

Mark....that's an amazing story and an even more amazing coincidence.  I'll send you an internal email.

I love the warm colors of the field against the dark gray clouds.  Great counterpoint.  This may be picky, but the bright clouds and house draw my eye to the left side leaving a lot of negative space on the right.  Have you considered a vertical crop turning this into a portrait view. Perfect for the cover of Outdoor Photography magazine!

Alan, I always like to consider other crops, but I didn't even think about using a vertical crop for this.  I did try it, but other than being good for a magazine cover (plenty of space above and below for print), I didn't like how the sides encroached on the sides of the barn.  Perhaps I could tone down the sky a bit so it wouldn't draw the eye there.  I haven't visited this picture in a long time, and my editing skills are a bit better now than they were when I processed this image.  I think I could do a better job now.  Thanks for digging this out.
