johncrosley 1 Posted August 20, 2008 I am probably the reason this was posted for critique, as I was browsing through Joke's Internet work and stopped at this photo and said to myself 'this is simply an amazing shot -- it's representative of the highest level of photography". It combines several of Joke's themes, one of them being 'walls' and particularly 'old walls' and also 'abstractions' that come from old weathered and maybe moss eaten surfaces, old buildings and architecture particular to her part of the world -- in this case a basement opening with excellent top/side light coming down a steep staircase, obviously from the outside. So, I wrote Joke and suggested she put it up for critique, since I felt it was so wonderful, and she has done that. I rate it among the very best of the best, and I am no easy rater -- I've rated less than 400 photos on Photo.net in four years here (at least that still are posted). And really, I can think of none better. 7/7 from me, and that places it at the front of my highest-rated gallery. Thanks for posting it Joke. It is in truth, everything I said it was (and anyone who gives a photo like this a 3/3 is showing their own ignorance, which is something that comes with exposing great works to an audience of skilled photographers mixed with numerous neophytes who just bought a camera and are 'rating away' without any sense of what is good. This, my fellow photographers, meets my highest test for excellence in photography -- in my view Joke's most wonderful (and more complex) work. John (Crosley) Link to comment

johncrosley 1 Posted August 21, 2008 But if I were, this would be Photo Of the Week material, in my estimation . . . number and size of ratings seems to be bearing that out, but then my views are already expressed. And this photo is entirely sui generis (one of a kind), so if avoiding look-alike POWs is a consideration, its originality would be a plus for this photo. John (Crosley) Link to comment
lex_photo 0 Posted August 22, 2008 This is amazing, as has been stated by much more eloquent people then me. I love the details, color, and movement. those look like some steep stairs, thanks for sharing - Lex Link to comment
