With most landscape images like this I use the camera on manual focus with a fairly small apperture usually a stop either side of f16 depending on how close the nearest object is. The lens works best around f11 so only use f22 when you need to, f16 also works pretty well. I set the focus ring to infinity and then back it off just a touch (a couple of millimetres). This approach seems to work very well and you don't even need to look through the view finder!
