I captured this image while covering a house fire in Woonsocket, RI at 2:30AM The child was found by this firefighter hiding in a burning room with minor burns.

The content, exactly the point. If you have any compassion then this is a very moving picture.

tells a story, dont see any thick smoke but a emotive capture.

The flash cut through a lot of the smoke, and I removed smoke in Photoshop.

And I like this picture. Maybe the smoke would give a better overall feel... this looks like the fireman is playing with the baby and she doesn't want to :) Good shot!

I agree that smoke would probably portray the story better, however, I had to remove it for newsprint.

My heart stopped when I saw this picture. When I was that childs age I was severely burned in a house fire...I often wondered what kinds of emotions were going on during the whole thing...this picture really does say a thousand words. Great Job.

You had to remove the smoke for newsprint? Why?

Although there's a nice moment here, the flash ruins this for me. I understand shooting fires at night, I usually stay away from using the strobe unless it's absolutely necessary. Sometmes dialling down your strobe helps keep the glare from being so harsh.
