wingell 0 Posted August 1, 2008 Ninety-six-year-old Virgiline Jilson displays an American revolutionary war bayonet plowed up by her late husband as he farmed the land in the background of this photo. The Jilson property, located in Lowman, NY, near Elmira, is the principal site of the Battle of Newtown, which took place in 1779 during General John Sullivan's campaign to punish Indians who were aiding British forces in the war. The photo illustrated a magazine article covering a proposal for a national park on the site. Cheers...Bill Link to comment
