This is terrific and an bit terrifying too. In many regards a very un-churchlike image. The arrangement of the windows and door make me think of a screaming face. The B&W is handled extremely well. I love the encroaching shadows on the bottom and the fact that the entire church face seems to be lunging out of the darkness.

Very imposing, this photo has a lot of character to it, maybe even more than the other one (though I like that one more), Like Gordon I think it's kind of un-church like, and slightly scary.......reminds me of the way I felt about the Church when I was younger and saw all the grieving and bloody images that Catholicism is so fond of in some countries (like Mexico)......Scary!

Gordon: Yes, it was screaming for the setting sun :) Just noticed how my title went wrong in here, because the actual entrace isn't seen here, it is just cutted out from the bottom part. Thanks for appreciating the b/w work because i find it a bit difficult for sometimes and i am quite sure some peoples see some major flaws in there.

Juan: I think i might have done these a bit too agressive pieces ;) but i find it interesting to see them a little differently than i have used to see as i have browsed some Finnish churches on the web. I did these churches in many ways (My poor way to study new things) and this was one style of them.

Ps. For both of you... see the "Miami Vice" version of this above... and now you are ready to scream ;D

Hello, Tero, this is very cool. I get the same emotions about the forbidding face and the shadows, but I also feel there is meaning to the fact that no real "main entrance" is visable. I enjoy figuring out what you intended. The image intrigues me, which means I love it and it will be put in my "favorites".

I have to admit that i didn't had any hidden meaning with the title... or should it mean something like main entrance to the salvation... and would it be salvation or something darker. You actually gave my mind a good spin now... guess i have to think this one over again :) Thanks for commenting this one. Warm rgs Tero.

I'm excited to see some new work from you! This image is imposing, grand, and literally fabulous. The lines are so strong...and I mean that in three ways -- sharpness, contrast, and composition. I love the B&W treatment, a great success. Bravo!

It's a beautiful image and takes a special eye to put all the information together to bring out the architectural demon that is lurking there. Personally, I would have preferred the shadow on the left not to be there, matching the right side but then again I would prefer to be 30 again and rich but I'm just going to have to make do with the way things are.

Karolos: Thanks for commenting, much appreciated.

Jack: The shade bothered me also but in this time of year i can't get a clean shot of it with this light. Will check it again while i visit there again.

Tony: Thanks for commenting, much appreciated.

Warm rgs Tero.

When I saw the thumbnail, I saw it more as a yawn in the expression than a scream. Once opened and learning that it is a church, I am more willing to adopt the scream hypothesis. :) This is a great image. The light is just right, although if I were to get nit picky I might agree with Jack about the shadow. That is way too insignificant to keep me from being awed by the image.

Thanks David for commenting. I have been waiting for that moment that i could get a new shot of this church. Last time (Today) i drove by it, but there was a wedding going on and i am not a wedding photographer ;D Still waiting for that perfect light... as usual.

Tero, the composition and lighting here is superb. Love the tonal range. It all creates a very eerie photograph. I also don't mind the shadow at bottom left - it gives me the impression of something creeping up!

Nice work all round.

Tanks for your comment Tero, it lead me to your interesting portfolio. Curiously, it does not seem to me a terrifying or frightful face, me suggests me a singer (an opera singer), perhaps for the expression of the "eyes". It is curious to say "expression of eyes" when we are talking of a house, but I think that is this "living expression" that makes of this one a special photo. Best regards, Carlos
