Guest Guest Posted September 18, 2002 What a great example of street photography ought to be. This could have come off a movie set, I love it! Link to comment
tomer_jacobson 0 Posted September 18, 2002 mazing captured moment. make me want to get out on the streets and take some photos as well :-) Link to comment
davidmalcolmson 0 Posted September 18, 2002 This is a case of being in the right place at the right time. By a happy accident I had my Mamiya C3 with me - I had been photographing the child of some friends and was making my way home. It was late afternoon and the light wasn't good. With an ISO 125 film in the camera I was working at more or less full aperture, which helped throw the background out of focus. The resulting negative was quite 'thin' and required careful printing. I have used Photoshop 6 to clean up dust and specks, and to blur the background a little bit more. Link to comment
jfnahas 1 Posted September 18, 2002 Beatiful tones; great capture. I cannot tell if i like the background though... Link to comment
mg 0 Posted September 19, 2002 I love it. Just a few regrets here... The man behind, the camera maybe slightly to high, and the father's face slightly blur... Yet, I really enjoyed seeing this. A great piece of humor to my eyes. Congrats. Link to comment
peterkonzuk 0 Posted September 19, 2002 Geez... just happened to have your Mamiya handy.. I sick with envy. How fast can you fire off a few frames?? The guy in the center is unfortunate but since you didn't mind enhancing the background blur I wonder if it might be stronger with him blurred a bit into the background?? Link to comment
wespettus 0 Posted September 19, 2002 The expressions make this shot. What a wonderful sense of awe that your subjects show. Great job! Link to comment
trevor_hopkins 0 Posted September 20, 2002 How did you find three people in 1990 who look as if they just stepped out of a time machine from the 1950's? Maybe that explains their surprised expressions. A great shot, and a refreshing change to see a good candid, human interest picture. Comment update: Exposure Date has been changed to 1970. At least the duffel coat and sideburns now fit; and since this was the decade fashion forgot, they can be forgiven the rest...! Link to comment
petec 0 Posted September 20, 2002 I just love this shot...has a touch of Diane Arbus about it! Link to comment
anders_fredrickson 0 Posted October 9, 2002 as much as I dislike the guy in the background, without him it's not real clear this picture was taken 'recently'. and blurring might be weird, considering his proximity to the foreground. Link to comment
dsinclair 0 Posted October 10, 2002 Pick any decade! This photo is so timeless I first thought it was from the '30s. Wonderful expressions. Just wonderful. Link to comment
babatunde martins 0 Posted October 20, 2002 I like this image of your your street images. It is interesting the hair (the side burns on the guy in the middle, the girl on the left and clothes on all of them) do not look like 1990 but so the costumes and exessions work well when viewed now. I dont know if It would have the same fealing in colour. this is your leica no? it is not a square. Link to comment
kevin_hundsnurscher 0 Posted February 24, 2003 What an incredible photo. I love the humor that this picture brings out. This is a very nice capture! Link to comment
blaise_fiedler 0 Posted February 24, 2003 Congrats for POW! These characters are really funny - strange faces and all looking astonished, looking in different directions. Low DOF really does it here. I feel the 4th character - the mustache man in the background - is out of place on this pic. Apart from that, perfect. Kindly, Blaise Link to comment
montague_withnail 0 Posted February 24, 2003 It's dated 1970, not 1990. 1970 England is totally believable. Link to comment
jed goode 0 Posted February 24, 2003 From a thin neg you have produced a very good end result. The tonal range is excellent and the background gives just enough detail to put the figures in context. You were a touch unlucky with the man behind the main group, but you can't have everthing in the circumstances. This image certainly caputres an air of awe in the subjects. Mind you, if I was any one of the three main subjects I would bin this image straight away; the elves are right about feeling a little guilty, but I do not see the charm ... even if I did have a bit of a laugh. After my initial reaction, I began to feel sorry for the subjects and hope that they never see this image. Link to comment
ray cheung 0 Posted February 24, 2003 I can tell that you have manipulated the photo with photoshop by the degree of blurring. This manipulation makes the picture stand out. However, I believe trying to make it more subtle would help. Link to comment
chris_waller 1 Posted February 24, 2003 I love this picture. When was it taken? It has a nineteen-fifties look about it. Link to comment
tmjacobs 0 Posted February 24, 2003 Very nice, but I would remove the guy behind them with PS cloning, he's very distracting. Link to comment
mg 0 Posted February 24, 2003 Where's the rickshaw ? Where's the squirrel ? Where's Jim Vanson ? :-)A very good and funny catch, Mr. David... This picture speak for itself, so I'll save you the thousand useless words... this is not the only genre of photography, but it surely is a darn fine picture in its own genre.(Yet, I prefer squirrels...:-) Link to comment
skopar 0 Posted February 24, 2003 This really is fantastic. I have this as a favourite photo on another photo community website. One of the very best photographs of this type that I've seen. This could easily have been in the Time Life series or in Life magazine from the 50s. Link to comment
