Bomb catching Buddah, Fengguo Temple

This giant Buddah, almost 30' high, is one of seven in the almost 1,000

year old wooden Fengguo Temple in Yiqian, Laioning Province. During

WWII a bomb was dropped on the temple, it penetrated the roof and

ended up in the arms of this statue, merely breaking off the RH thumb.

Three other unexploded bombs were found in the temple grounds. Truly

a spectacular Chinese national treasure, but somewhat off the tourist

routes.
