I disagree with the above comment about rotating the image to achieve more of a diagonal of the subjects across the frame.

The details are exceptionally good considering the distance this would have been shot at. The colors are good and I especially like the mirrored reflection from the light on each of the right wings. The background sky and clouds is very appealing too!

Due to a group flying it's hard to get a good comp acompanied with fine light. And even more - it's hard to get that close to them.

I hope I'll be able to submit more flying photos.

I totally understand, but something hard to grasp for one that has yet to photograph an Air Show, especailly when jet aircraft are involved.

Lighting & Focus are an extreme challenge indeed, . . . and you've done very well here in all aspects!

Very nice image VS.

I like the brightness of the well exposed aircraft and smoke trails against the dark sky. The composition is strong – although I might have cropped a little closer (sacrificing some of the smoke) to concentrate even more on the aircraft. Having said that, one of my failings is over cropping and not leaving enough space around a subject, so perhaps you should ignore that :)

 With regard to the previous good comments … I may be wrong, but I read an implication both in them and your reply that “it is difficult to optimise the composition at air shows and one is stuck with what one captures”.  It is very difficult for most of us mortals (expert sport/aircraft photographers excepted) to get the composition perfect in camera at air shows but if there is enough room around the subject in the original (and one has enough low noise pixels) then we usually have quite a bit of scope to adjust the composition (including rotation) during post-processing.  The comment about diagonals is interesting – my immediate thought was also that an increased angle might make the image even stronger.  But, really it is only possible to tell by playing with the original and trying out options.
