This is one of my lastest work in the macro field. I took many

versions of this photo and I like this one the best. It makes me

think of those terror movies where the monster appears from a vague

cloud and the subject is completely unaware of it. That's what I

tried here.

The very fine ISO25 film (APX25 from Agfa, sadly discontinued) helped

me to record all detail possible.

If you wonder, both subjects were collected and preserved. I don't

think they would stand still for 30's otherwise ;-)

Any thoughts?

Circle PS: I was very busy last week and couldn't participate in the

discussions. I'll be catching up ASAP.

Welcome back Gerard! The detail in this shot is amazing. I think the looming aspect of the threat (spider?) works well, and could be even more threatening if it were in slightly better focus. Yet, for macro work this seems to me to be very good dof. This must have required some patience from the photographer. Nice job!

Really is superb dof for this degree of macro work... almost would be nice to have the background a bit softer, though, I think .... seems just a bit busy to me. Another nice macro image.... and.... welcome back!!!!!

Hello Gerard...interesting subjects you have there...what are the modeling fees? :)

I calculate about 150x at my monitor...a tribute to the best film and developer from Germany. My personal favorite was Pan-X @ ASA 25 and Rodinal.

You have very good darkroom skills and I now confer upon you the circle MM degree (MACRO MASTER).

How does one rate the aesthetics of this type of nature photography? I guess it's in the fly of the beholder.. :)

Seriously... your setup, coupled with your technical expertise and thorough attention to details, yields a result difficult to match.

Nice idea and well executed. I like the dof with the fly in sharp focus and leaving the spider slightly blurred. I do find the posture of the fly a little unnatural - would have been better flat than at the upward angle it is in. The top of the frame is bright and distraction - I felt you could have cropped off just above the spiders front legs.

Scary! Were both live? Bloody good use of a macro, and the tones do make it look like out of a 50's movie (I can almost see the sign for Tarantula Vs. The Fly, from Hammer Films)

I like your macro work ALOT. I think that many people forget to think about composition and design when they get that close to the work... and your stuff is great. I would like to keep an eye on your work and learn from you!
