Strolling Nuns

vahe_peroomian

This is the first time I've actually converted a color photo to black and white after scanning. Given the monochromatic nature of the original image, the two are very similar.

I caught sight of these two nuns strolling on the balcony of the

Tibidabo Cathedral from the top of the ferris wheel at the

adjacent amusement park and took successive shots each time

I was at the apex of the ferris wheel. This photo is originally a

color slide, but I thought it may work as a black and white as

well. I'd like comments and suggestions, especially if you'd be

kind enough to compare this to the original color version which

can be found here

This is quite an interesting photo--I especially like the fact (though it in some ways has absolutely nothing to do with the photo) that it was taken from the top of a ferris wheel. How apropos. For me, the bw version is much better than the color, since bw tends to focus the viewer's attention on shape, textures, and light. The dark tower, wall and cross, the white nuns, and the indifferent gray stone set up some interesting semiotic messages. That, coupled with the excellent perspective (huge stone church vs. small white nuns scurrying off like ants, man-made vs. human vs. alleged divine) make for a fine photograph. Good work.

Two nuns definitely make this photo. They give movement and life to what could have been a rather plain architectural photo. For a possible minor improvement, I suggest dodging the cross on top of the front tower against the shadow of the gate. Nice work.

I would only dodge a little bit on the top of the cross, to not have it blend in so much with the entry way. Other then that, this is a great picture!

I don't know which exactly, but it has feeling to it ! the small human figures in huge, grey, silent constructions...
