A Spire To Iris

Another attempt to produce a non-standard flower picture, this time

with more attention to movement and composition leading the eye.

I clicked the thumbnail because I found it a little interesting. Seeing the image so much larger makes me glad I did click. This is a seemingly simple shot but it is quite clear it is not. Well done.

I like the tension between the strong horizontal lines and the arching vertical line of the bud and stalk. The background with its diagonal swords works well. Between the added angle of motion they contribute and the varying tones they give the feeling this scene extends well into the distance. Lovely light and colour scheme also... so full of life. I am not 100% certain from the bud but this looks like I. psuedocorus. I have a lot of these around my pond and they are often the subject of my photos.

So glad you stopped by and that you like this one. I thought I'd captured one of nature's great compositions, especially because of the lines and the depth, and you've seen the same which is very encouraging. I'm not botanically knowledgeable enough to know the genus and species, but maybe this shot will help you make the ID. Whatever the name, they're such pretty flowers, and I especially like the precision of the buds.

I have not heard of these referred to as French Iris but then common name are multitudinous. I suspect these are Iris psuedocorus. The veining on the falls is fairly distinct. I will try to go out in the yard and take a few shots of my plants tomorrow and post them here for comparison.

 

Whatever the species these certainly are beauties.

David, a beautiful one,really a bit different. The BG, IMO is the right amount of blur with nice"zig-zaging" of leaves, that still are keeping its forms, but not disturbing the main actor. In the different hues of green ,the yellow color , form, textures , and direction are glowing. very nice result, and good light.

Pnina! How nice to see you here. I'm especially pleased you like the glow... that's what makes the shot for me. The last bit of sunlight that I followed to the bud. You see, I do pay attention when you speak of how you follow the light! :-) It's that same light that brings out the depth because of its fairly wide luminance variation from foreground to back. Thank you for looking and leaving such a detailed comment. You make me smile when you call this bud the "main actor." :-) So, now it looks to me like it is just about to start or finish taking a bow!
