mrraz 0 Posted May 15, 2008 Seems to be somewhat over saturated, and there looks to be a very large amount of detail lost in the roof area. Link to comment
joshschutz 0 Posted May 15, 2008 maybe you have mistaken the oversaturation with what this place really looks like. because of the reflected light off of the very orange/red rocks around the ruins, the place truly is very saturated. i thought that it was toned down some. when i processed this photo in RAW i set the WB to daylight, not shade, which it was in. i'm not sure where i am losing detail. is it in the white on the roof? judging by the histogram processed in RAW i have not lost any detail in the roof. there is one spot on the far right building where i lost some of the red histo, but apparently you didn't notice that one. 'I don't follow rules regarding photographic composition. I let my knowledge of painting, drawing and sculpture guide what looks right to me.' (taken from your bio) this is how i perceived. this is what it looked like to me. this is how i remember it. 3/3's really? does this photo really warrant a rating below average. apparently someone out there believes this is a 7/7 photo. mrraz 0 Posted May 16, 2008 The ceiling area comes across as overprocessed and granulated, not noise, around where I see detail loss, and yes, my monitor is calibrated. The white/pink areas are devoid of detail. Perhaps you should give setting the WB to shadow a try in your processing. I feel you could have done much better with this image, so I gave you the rating I did. It had nothing to do with the composition, nor do I feel I was at all unreasonable. I save each shot as both raw and sq jpeg w/auto WB. This way I have a reference frame for later processing. I don't rely strictly on the histogram while processing. Link to comment
