mark_starr 0 Posted May 10, 2008 This elderly woman passed away after living her life alone. In clearing out the house I thought I would try to capture something of her with a camera in a series of images - a portrait without the person. Thanks for looking- Mark Link to comment
lex_photo 0 Posted May 10, 2008 That is such a sad story, but what a neat idea. Thanks so much for sharing and the photo is well done. I might have included a bit more of the lamp, but that's just me. - Lex Link to comment
LindaM 2 Posted May 10, 2008 fantastic series! well done. all of these say so much by the absence. Link to comment
Not Here 93 Posted May 10, 2008 Poignant, but as I viewed the entire series I didn't get the feeling Shirley was sad. I see a very organized, neat, life with older, but well cared for furniture, radios, and lacy covers. Either money became an issue late in life, or more likely, Shirley was comfortable with her familiar things. Thanks for presenting this collection; a very welcome diversion from the usual... paulo2 0 Posted May 10, 2008 Nice composition. Love the retro clock-radio and crooked lamp shade. Coooool idea for such a sad story. Link to comment
raybrizzi 0 Posted May 10, 2008 Interesting idea, a glimpse of the deatils of a life passed. I'm a big fan of the old tube radios of the fifties. I'll bet the clock hands were the old radium paint glow in the dark type. Beautiful details, the inlay of the bedstead, the lace, and the lamp Check the portfolio for more of this terrific series. giuseppe_pasquali 0 Posted May 10, 2008 gently and neatly executed. The only fault is the missing top of the lamp, a pity. Thank you, G. Link to comment
mark_starr 0 Posted May 11, 2008 Thank-you all for your comments. I really appreciate the feedback, especially from fellow photographers. I also have all of Shirley's personal photos, mostly of her (although intrigingly, a number of them with another person cut out of the image!) that I am going to try to put together a larger story. I took about 15 photos for this series, so I have a few more to do. With regards to the lamp being cut off, I think I agree that the composition is a bit awkward. I do have other shots with the top, so I will revisit them and compare. I was looking for a little different take on my normal compositional stuff, but this one may not work. As you know, sometimes the photographer is too close to the subject to see it objectively, and comments like these help put things into perspective, so to speak! Thanks again for taking the time to remark, and happy shooting to all of you! Mark Link to comment
