The Edge of a Lost World.
This is the summit of Monte Roraima, a remnant of the supercontinent Pangea, and one of the oldest land formations on earth. This 40 square kilometre table mountain towers 7,000 feet over the surrounding Amazon highlands of Venezuela and harbors a completely unique and ancient ecosystem isolated for millions of years from the steamy jungle below. The hot amazon air cools and swirls around the summit creating a cloud forest and some of the tallest waterfalls in the world plunge from the summit to the wilderness world below. The trail to the summit follows a narrow diagonal ledge directly up the sandstone cliff to this point.
