jcpopper 0 Posted April 24, 2008 Really well seen and made, Dave. Nice tones and gentle humor. (Sorry to be so late. I've been away a bit.) Warm regards... Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted April 24, 2008 Never late. At least with mine, you don't have to go through twenty pages of commentary, like on your images. You've become such a popular guy. Well deserved though. Link to comment
rarmstrong 0 Posted April 24, 2008 Another really entertaining human shot...good black and white too, as Ton has said. This could have been taken in 1958...except for the guy's tennis shoes in the background. They would have been Keds or PF Flyers back then. Regards, Dick Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted April 24, 2008 Thanks. Much appreciated. As far as dating goes, did kids wear goofy hats like they do now back then? I don't remember, but it seems to me that back in the Midwest, kids rarely wore hats in that era. Link to comment
rarmstrong 0 Posted April 24, 2008 The hat resembles one called a Kromer which has been around since the 1930s. It was made by the Kromer Cap Co. of Milwaukee, WI. When the company was going to close, it was bought out by Jacquarts Fabrics of Ironwood, MI. They still make the caps in all kinds of colors. They are very popular up here. Here is the link... http://www.stormykromer.com/ Have a good night! Dick Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted April 24, 2008 Boy you are a walking encyclopedia! Well, anyway I was kind of alluding to the fact that the kids around here are wearing lots of goofy styles and wear stocking caps and the likes even when it is very warm. Guys, and lots of the girls are wearing those military kind of hats that are styled after baseball caps, but much more squared off and stovepipish. But my memories of growing up in the Midwest was that we wore baseball caps if anything, and were much more likely to only wear them for baseball. And, yes, in the winter there were a number of styles of hats to keep the head and ears warm. They were worn for warmth, not style. And when it got warm, they were stored away for another winter. I'm not being critical, merely making the observation. Link to comment
rarmstrong 0 Posted April 24, 2008 I get it...no one up here wears Kromers in warm weather. Ball caps...yes! For me, to keep the sun off my bald head:-)! Link to comment
