jgalyon 0 Posted April 2, 2008 this shot is an obvious departure from your normal subject matter (which already contains great variety). this strikes me as a brave choice...but one that somehow falls short of holding my interest. care to tell me your thoughts on this one? convince me there's something i'm not seeing? (please check your portfolio for my comment)...best regrards, john Link to comment
ramz1 0 Posted April 2, 2008 Thanks for the comment, both here and on my portfolio. With this, I was driving towards Banff, and the side of the mountain was just lit up nicely after a light dusting of snow hit the area... and so I imagined a shot filled up with trees. So with this, I just loved all the angles and lines... sorta abstract in a way (for me) if I get lost in the dark and light. In a way, sorta like icicles upside-down... Yeh, I think I just liked the jaggedness and the flow of the trees. For me the main focus point is the upper left-to-centre part of the photo that's outlined by the natural break in the trees... the lower and right side. Thanks again John Link to comment
jgalyon 0 Posted April 2, 2008 i do understand your attraction to the patterning of the trees. it's a shot i would have probably taken myself. i should have added, that i realize that some shots don't have the same impact when seen in small JPEG. versions...so, i'll reserve judgment. still looking and pondering... laurentbaig 0 Posted April 2, 2008 I think the interest is in the gully patterns. I think this works really well and would make for a fascinating large print (i hope it's large format ;-). Link to comment
papasan 0 Posted April 3, 2008 I like this "minimalist" approach, it has an interesting almost abstract quality to it. The composition works very well with the three lines/gullies separating the image in large geometric forms of different "weight". The texture from the trees also bring out the patterns. Well done.
