Just about touched this one

Thoughts, and Suggestions, are appreciated :)

Very Impressive lightning bolt...I enjoy photographing lightning...at least trying to, and I fully understand how difficult it is to get a bolt to strike where you want it to. I've got a few cool lightning shots in my portfolio if you get time to take a look. I normally shoot at f8 on bulb and leave the shutter open until something strikes. I try to open up my field of view as wide as possible and crop the image the way I want it after I down load the pictures from my camera. My only suggestion would be to bring the bolt over more toward the center...assuming you have more room to move it...interesting capture though.

Thank you for your comment. I took this using the same exact settings, bulb and at f8. I kept tracking that particular cell trying to lead my target in hopes of getting any strikes more to the middle of the frame, but as with this shot, I just couldn't get ahead of it. I may end up cropping this one to center the lightning even still. It took a large branch from the tree that it struck. I was seeing light streaks for a bit after as well, since I just happened to be looking right at it when it struck. I'll try not to do that again :)

Thanks for your comments on my lightning shots...I've had a few close calls over the year too. I like your other shot with the lightning sparking through the clouds...maybe play with this one and see how it looks a little closer. Regars.

That is close, just judging by the apparent 'width' of the bolt! A good landscape makes it an interesting capture as well. Great shot in a good series!
