Think you needed more light here Bill. Maybe some shadow/ highlight adjustment?

A great bird to photograph. A vertical would probably have worked better. The heron itself is not well lit. Fill flash would have helped there. The harsh light breaking through the leaves creates distractions. It looks like the breeding feathers are just growing out. Wait for those to be full and it makes for a great addition to a photo. They often curl down around the top of the wing. Have fun
