Is this a combination of two pics? What did you do to get that effect in the background? Strip it out and bump the contrast/brightness way up?

I love the two very different expressions on the children's faces. I also think the background is wonderful.

I immediately follow her eyes and wonder what she's looking at, and why he's not interested in it. I guess what I'm saying is that the photo really engages me. I'm new to this, but I recognize good work when I see it!:)
