Great image! The black and white fits perfectly!

You sure did get this one right, and I think B&W was the way to go. Reminds me of those great photos that often were in Life/Look magazines in the late 60's, early 70's.

Any thoughts?

For once, I'm happy to see an original cat shot. This is excellent. My only suggestion would be to have the highlights a tad brighter than they are. Regards.

While the image might be original, the quality of the work still doesn't do anything for me personally. While there is obviously bright light in the frame, everything appears to be a muddle of grays with nothing at the bright end of the scale. Maybe I just don't like cats, but I think this one needs a contrast tweak. IMHO, it would benefit from a little tighter crop as well.

I have three cats and I know this image very well. I wish I had thought to capture it. :)

I agree about the photo being way too 'muddy'. The highlights are just not strong enough. I think either print it with a higher contrast, or next time, even though this was probably a split second thing, very quick, blah... try to expose subjects with highlights like this (where the fur of the cat is white fur) a little longer so it is white in the print also. However, since the shade of the blinds in relation to the subject is almost completely insignificant, you can probably do more work in the darkroom to brighten this kitty up. Other than that, I hope SOMETHING I said was helpful and you did a great job of being at the right place at the right time. I personally like the crop you have on it now. nice job.

Actually the contrast seems to be an artifact of scanning, if I look at the histograms. My scanner does the same thing, though mine compresses both ends not just the highlights. Here's a tweaked example in Photoshop; does it look more like your actual print?

Great photo. I think you chose a perfect moment for this shot - the composition is in my opinion really awesome. Good idea that you used a B&W film - the balance between black and white color is just right.

 

Oh yeah, you also chose the right title, for me it adds +1 to originality.

Yes, I agree with all - too muddy. Mostly as a result of scanning. Please check out my "2nd Try" in my portfolio for some contrast tweaking.
