a shame that cell phone did not have a flash, you need to pop a flash in his face. You might have a accident, but the photo would be sharper! looks like he kept his eyes on the road, that's a good thing, my mother or someones friend might be crossing the road.

Great photograph Colin. The softness in face due to movement contrast well with the sharp lines of light outside the car. To use flash would take this away, but not everybody gets it! I have some self-portraits done like this while driving.

Are you kidding me, I should send some of the photos my friend sends me who works with law enforcement, they are from crash scenes, you would be sick. I should post one for you, or send some to your portfolio. They are in a category of fatalities from text messaging, they know they were texting at the time of the crash from phone records! The insurance co. does not pay the family, They claim unsafe driving practice. In this world of to many laws, after seeing what you wrote, makes me know we need them!!!

John, I understand your concern. But taking a snap with a p&s that's stuck on the dashboard requires zero brain processing power - it's one press of a button that's up in front of you and is far less distracting than a) listening to instructions on a GPS (which I don't have and I refuse to use as I believe they are dangerous), b) talking on a hands free mobile (which I don't have and would refuse to use as these are too distracting), c) shouting at kids in the back of the car (which I do have and I know they can be distracting), d)listening to the radio (which I do have, and I know can be distracting when the news or traffic report comes on).

 

And of course there are idiots who text people while driving. I can barely text while standing still so the thought of trying to text while driving makes me shiver, and I can fully understand why this is a major cause of accidents.

 

But pressing a button on a p&s stuck on the dash, or elsewhere in the cockpit, while keeping eyes firmly fixed on the road........

Thanks for your concern John, but i would just like to tell you that the camera was on a timer and all i had to do was simply hold my hands at ten and two, but in this instance i just needed to hold the camera on the steering wheel. I was being very conscious about the situation and as Pete said, there are probably more distracting things that have been and are being done in automobiles on an hourly basis. Once again i understand your concern and i just want to say, for the record, that required no more brain power than driving and talking to someone sitting in the seat next to me.
