Nikon D200ISO100 f/22 @ 5secs; 2+3 Soft GND (adjusting it on each frame, and sometimes sliding the 2 stops to cover the reflection in the water as well).

Taken on Monday during my long weekend stay in Lake Tahoe. This is a

stitch of 12 vertical images (with a lot of overlapping, maybe I could

use less) done in CS3. The sunset was really nice and colorful. I find

it hard sometimes to compose images for panoramas, I tried to find

some balance here, not sure if it works fine. Let me know your

thoughs, and/or comments for improvement.

Looks good. What kind of equipment and exposures - how many frames put together?

Caspar,

I used a Nikon D200, with a 17-55mm lens (at 17mm) mounted on a panoramic head

(Nodal Ninja). For this panorama, I used 12 (overlapping) individual images, and

during exposure I adjusted 2 grad neutral density filters (2 stops + 3 stops). In general the sky was covered by 5stops (2+3), on the reflection on the water I cover also that section with part of the 2 stops to maintain consistency on the look of sky and reflection.

Maybe a little too much foreground here and the horizon does not seem straight. However, I really like the very subtle way the light on the rocks changes from dark on the left to a little lighter on the right. Fantastic.

I think it is good. I have yet to meet a panorama I didn't like - they are one of my favorite types of photos. If you are looking at someone else's, you can let your eyes wander all over just like in real life, and if you are looking at one you have taken, it immediately takes you back to that place.

I agree that they are hard to compose, and I think maybe you are searching for a focal point of interest here (like maybe a stronger convex cloud pattern mimicking the bay or something). Oh well, I still enjoy looking at it, and you probably do too. Sometimes that's good enough...
