hi all,

it's funny to me, when i put up my portfolio of 7 images, this one

got twice the number of ratings of all the non nudes.. but some of my

worst ratings... i would think that in the general public, having

nude in the title would generate a lot more interest then something

else, but in a group of photographers, i didn't necessarily expect

it, especially with the low ratings, i would think serious critics of

art or photography wouldn't b the kind of people so anxious to just

see some skin... r these serious critiques and they found artistic

fault? or were these just lusty people racing to see a nekked body

and disappointed at the lack of good clear body parts? well, now i

can find out, with some actual comments and explanations of peoples

feelings! yay!

and btw, i think it's somewhat perverse to have two rating

categories, and seemingly of equal weight, aesthetics, and

originality attached to every shot...

originality is not always of much consequence in say a portrait, or a

journalistic or documentary shot... you can have a great photo that

is completely unoriginal and the converse as well... and u can have a

great photo having little to do with aesthetics if it powerfully

tells a story, etc... i think we either need more categories for

rating, or none, a simple rate the photo, and use what criteria u

will...

ok, that rant is over, about this photo, i find it curious that

people find it unoriginal, i haven't seen too many things similar,

that doesn't mean u have to like it, but i don't thinks it's too

standard or run of the mill in pose, lighting, or the digital

background effects...

ok, let me have it!!!! *cowers in the corner*

I'd like to see just a tad more light on the subject to reveal a little more form. The shadow light being so different top to bottom draws my eye. Overall I like the composition and rate it a "I like it"

I think it is original/creative as well as interesting to look at. I don't know if the model needed greater illumination or if (my

preference) the background needed to be lighter, but something needs to be done to differentiate the two. If the

background was cooler (maybe a med to light value blue or green) the background, nor the model values would need to

change. The model's accessories don't make a lot of sense in the context of the overall image. I do think this is a good

picture, I am only focusing on the aspects that I think could be improved.

I just viewed this image on your web site and the contrast between the bkgrd and model are fine. The jpg you have here is not so good.

Aaron I looked at your 7 photographs and thought that in my case they were a goal, something for me to strive for in my own work. In this group we have some who, like me, are mediocre photographers at best. On the other hand we have some amazingly talented people like yourself. I think that we all demonstrate by our membership and frequent visits to this little space on the net that we all want to improve our skills no matter what level we are on. I think that the more you know about the art, the more you are able to appreciate the considerable work and skill it takes to produce some of the photos we see here. Conversely, the less advanced of us sometimes miss the boat and it shows on some of the critiques. I believe that all of us can look at a great photo and appreciate it. My point is that the shot that should rate way up there may sometimes be overlooked by some because maybe the unique way the artist framed it or manipulated the exposure to produce an unusual effect is not recognized. It's not intentional I'm sure but happens none the less. I am a photography student of the not so advanced variety. I like to come here to look at and rate the work of others because I feel I learn by that. Am I qualified to rate the talents of the truely talented individuals here, no probably not - not yet, but I continue because we are all here to obtain a common goal and work such as yours brings us that much closer.
