The San Esteban Del Rey Mission, Acoma Pueblo or Sky City, New Mexico is the oldest continually inhabited city in the US.

This was done in 7 shots with my 28-80mm at about 50mm and then put together in photoshop. It makes a very sharp 20 x 50 inch print. (No Digital Cameras are allowed with in the Acoma Pueblo, No Photography allowed in side the Mission.)The Indians believe that if you photograph a sprit you will capture it and it will be trapped. This is why there is no photography in side the mission or of the cemetery. No video cameras because with a camera that is always taking pictures your more likely to capture a spirit. No Digital cameras because most of them can do video clips.

My only minor nit about this is that the cormer bottom right is brighter than the rest of the pix, and therefore stands out too much. I'd suggest to burn it in. Regards.

Do you know why digital camera are not allowed in Acoma Pueblo? Or why no photography is allowed in the mission? I find it curious that digital photography is specifically banned around the area...

fabulous accumulation of light, subject matter and perspective using a wide angle lens to make this spectacular image!

When I looked at this, I thought you used a super-wide lens. That you stitched 7 shots to make your image - I'm deeply impressed!

This is a photo that I would never like to have at home. The red sky looks fake. What is the meaning of the red sky? Why not green or yellow? It conveys absolutely no emotions. Good photograph should convey something, improve on the work of others, and be visually pleasing.

I guess the idea was to take a panoramic photograph, then it didnt look too good so some extra Photoshop manipulation in the form of the red sky took place.

In response to FAKE, Well it is the red sky was an accident, When I color corrected the sky with the hue & saturation tool the slider accidentally went all the way to one side turning it red, I liked it so I used it.

Your picture is stunning! I see you have done a lot of work with this image and your product is original and beautiful! I think the red sky alters the reality of the setting and adds a touch of surrealisim & mystery; therefore, heightening the sensation of the "mission".

I would be surprised if I didnt find a photo like this in the portfolio of Edward Curtis, or some other dude from 100 years ago. Then the only improvement would be the red sky. Composition wise I dont see anything pleasing. Your other photos are much better than this one. It is just people like red color more than other colors, and rating is free and takes only half second.

So what version of Photoshop did you use? I cant imagine this great technique with the old 6.0. I wonder how many people of those that rated 10/10 belong to this equivalence class.

Print the photo, and examine the far right corner. You will see how good was your technique when you cloned out the people.

I like the blue version better. Not because I have any bias against digital editing. I just like the look of the deep blue sky better.

Pity about the digital cameras. Some day, the place won't be able to be photographed any more except by a handful of people still doing things the old fashioned way.

I've seen a lot of photos of Sky City and this is one of the best. I would have never thought about stitching a series of panorama shots together.

Very well done. A different perspective from utilizing a 16 or 20mm lens.

For me the red sky is emotional representing the bloodshed hanging over the pueblo from the invasion of the Spanish and later Anglos on the pueblo tribes of New Mexico. A bit simplistic, but that's emotion.

Thanks for sharing.

I like the red better because I don't have a natural reference for how the shading should appear. My eye doesn't try to relate the shading and color to a real experience.

In contrast, with the blue I like the color, but I'm put off by knowing the light isn't right and appears like an articial backdrop painted on the photo. My eye keeps trying to orient the light and it doesn't work.

A very fresh view of this pueblo.

Lovely tone and warm color in general.

I find the sky a tad too dark on my CRT or I'd give it a 9 9.

This could just be a Mac VS Windows gamma issue.

Don The light was coming from straight above me at 12:00 Noon, The blue sky was the original sky in the shot on the film I just turned it red. Interesting how the sky lights up along the horizon at noon and gets dark at the top. No Polarizer used ether.

Great shot. I like the red color cast. Works well for the image. The original didn't have as much punch. Cheers.
