vicenteconcha 8 Posted January 10, 2008 The light caresses the petals creating passion in the color. Excellent work. Best wishes. Vicente. Link to comment
rachelfoster 0 Posted January 11, 2008 This is very very nice. It's exactly what I try to capture: minimalist with black background and interesting lighting. I haven't achieved that effect yet..... Lovely. Link to comment

rachelfoster 0 Posted January 17, 2008 Yes! I'd like to know about lighting too (but was reluctant to ask). And Jack, I'm truly honored that you visited my portfolio. Thank you. Link to comment
truemarkphotography 0 Posted January 17, 2008 The Dahlia was on the bush, so I used a black background with a reflector to the side to backlight the flower. Link to comment
rachelfoster 0 Posted January 17, 2008 I shoot with a black background, but do so indoors. I painted two walls in my living room black (the small piano alcove) but never considered a black back could be used outdoors. I've wanted to use natural light such as Roger Sonneland does. Link to comment
truemarkphotography 0 Posted January 17, 2008 Roger is one of my inspirations. I've studied his works repeatedly, asking myself many questions about how he achieves his results. I know that he doesn't favor post processing for his own work and so his shots are "pure." I will use a bit of post processing when I think it's appropriate. As for the backgrounds, I've made up several different folding boards of different colors for just that purpose. I also carry a silver and a gold reflector with me. I don't do much with fill flash, mostly relying on ambient light to create the look I want. Link to comment
rachelfoster 0 Posted January 18, 2008 I just went to Staples and got two folding presentation boards: one white, one black. I'm off to shoot! Link to comment
