I'm truly have no intention of being disrespectful of Paul's comment...but every time I see the comment "simple, but effective" i just go a little crazy! The statement has the conotation that photographs that are "simple" ... are somehow inferior to photographs that are "complex". as though there is an inherent conflict between "simple"...and "effective". For me, photographs that display simplicity are often the MOST effective photographs. And...I love the honesty of a photograph that is "simple". not much room for being pretentious...it just is what it is, and what it is...is different for each person that views it. I'm truly not playing a mean game of semantics. Perhaps "simple AND effective" might be a better choice of words.

 

and not to forget the photograph itself! i have to say that i agree with the comment about cropping...and the fact that...it's only my opinion as well. most of my choices such as this involve asking myself...what belongs...what doesn't? what is the purpose...if any, for any/every aspect of the photograph. are there distracting, non-essential, purposeless aspects of the picture. everytime i look at the picture...i want to crop it to a square. but even if a square crop doesn't work...seems to me there's too much negative space to the right that just doesn't offer any value to the photograph. i like the sharply focused leaf against the blue...but there's just more blue than i "need" to see...
