I am not sure what he is doing here in front of the tank - relaxing or protesting the war? The pose/posture and facial expression of the subject are important for the audience to understand the message. In this photo, IMHO, they are a bit confusing.

I didn't see him as a protester. To me, this picture evoked 'common place.' That here is someone who's resting, or taking refuge from the sun - and he's chosen the front of a tank. That he would not 'question' sitting in front of a tank brings to light just how much war has affected us. It's become so common place that we don't take a second look at what we sit under - or near. . . . .

 

A few areas are 'washed out'. Adjusting exposure may add to the 'looming' effect of the tank. Then again, that is just my opinion. (smile)
