timkeller 0 Posted December 7, 2007 What a beauty! (And I learned a new word, cygnet...shameful since we have ducks, geese, turkeys and chickens...and I'm an English teacher and writer!) Light, color, exposure, portrait: all very fine. Thanks, again, for including lens and exposure information, which I always find instructive. Link to comment
Matt Laur 2,201 Posted December 7, 2007 Well, Tim: In all fairness, I was peculiarly aware that young swans are "cygnets," but I had no idea that adult males and females are "cobbs" and "pens" respectively. Did you ever read "An Exaltation Of Larks"? I think sometimes these things are just somebody's bit of humor and poetry, and some of them stick. This particular lakeside bird was working over an elderly Italian lady for some bread crumbs, and she was using what sounded like the most musical of salty obscenities - nearly operatic - and wagging her finger at it. I couldn't pick up the words, but I got the gyst of it. Just like Italian opera! Link to comment
