Rachel, although I liked the distortion I was concerned others might find the fact that the circular sky-light had been rendered as an oval to be unflattering. I was also conscious that the structure along the LHS made the composition a little left-side heavy. I felt that the strong spotlight on the RHS of the skylight and the overall progression of tonality from bottom RHS to top LHS brought it back into balance while the the structure on the left gave the image a dynamic quality and made the eye move quite fluidly about the space -- but, I was unsure this would be universally received. Lastly, I felt this came closest to imitating the famous David Heald photo of the Guggenheim (HERE); which, although I love it, I was trying to avoid duplicating.

I'm not familiar with that photo, but I'm coming more and more to the conclusion that I need to go with my gut feelings. This is a lovely photo, and the B&W is perfect.

In the shrinkery world they refer to "analysis paralysis." I'm prone to that.

Congratulation Ian Cox-Leigh, on making the Architectural Photography 2008 Editors' Picks. Best regards, Linh Dinh.
