davidlong 0 Posted November 15, 2007 This is certainly an attention-grabbing photo. Two aspects jump out: the wide range of tonalities, and the great textures. Viewed as a good print, you would almost be able to feel them. The thing I'm not quite sure about is the initial impression that the photograph gives. At first look, it seems like it needs an anchor. It's only after studying a bit that one notices the bridge of the nose and hint of an eye just to the right of the infant's hands. Once you see those, the photograph suddenly becomes far better, with the arrangement of elements creating a simply wonderful sort of whirlpool around them. Perhaps the nose and eye are a bit more obvious in a print. They're certainly visible on my (calibrated) monitor, but I'm afraid that the picture would often be ill-served if someone doesn't really look carefully. It might be that a bit of dodging to bring out the bridge of the nose and the ridge just above the eye would help them draw a little more attention. On the other hand, subtlety has its own virtue. Either way, it's a marvelous picture! Link to comment
