This photo was a collaborative effort between us and Hattrick

Photography when all of us were just hanging out and learning how to

weild a camera. (Ok, they had a bit of a head start.) We worked

together on pose and lighting, and Mr. Hattrick took the picture.

Then we did the retouching.

Angie, you have captured something very special here, the lighting and shadows are superb but for me it is the mood that I find special. A really nice image of this oh so special time. Well done!! All the best......roger

just curious: when you say "Then we did the retouching" - what exactly was it that you did?

This photo actually required some gentle nudging in PhotoShop. It was not necessarily intended to be a "final" photo, but rather an "experimental" one. Initially we were mostly concerned with learning what we could about lighting, etc.

 

After the shoot, we found that we liked many things about it... except that we hadn't bothered with any kind of a backdrop for it. So, initially there was a low ceiling, wall, and table behind the model, and they were not artistically lit in any way.

 

So, we had to extract the model from the background, including all of her delecately curling hair. This was particularly difficult, because her hair was lighter than the original background on camera left and darker than the background on camera right. In the hi-res version of this picture you can actually see where we selected out individual hairs. It was quite time-consuming.

 

Aside from the virtual background, we added a shadow vignette and removed some of the specular highlight from her belly, that sort of thing.
