I love these new additions to your portfolio Diana. Great depth with the pier leading to the high horizon line, and beautiful late afternoon golden light. Seeing the salt marsh brings back so many wonderful memories for me... I can almost smell the salty/sulfury mud.

Thank you so much for your time to notice my new additions Mike. This location is quite inspiring and I found it hard to pick one of the images I took in the hour and a half I shot here. there will be more coming. And yes, smell is something that is often associated with my memories of marsh fronts. I appreciate you comment very much!

I really like this. Did you try any with a narrower DOF. I'd love to see this image with the background more difficult to discern. To see that awesome footbridge blurring into a haze would be awesome in that light. C/

Did you try cropping out the trees and the sky? It would reduce the feeling of depth I suspect but in this case, the contours of the walkway, the angles of the of poles and the shades of the grasses seem to be the strengths of the composition. I've taken the liberty of messing with your already delightful image. Just let me know if you want me to delete it. From top to bottom here is what I did: cropped out sky and trees, cloned grasses to go about halfway up what was the treeline, cloned out the dudes, reduced shadows in dark grasses along the stream bank and cropped off a bit of the foreground. FWIW. Best, GJ

A portrait...of an old pier. Warm colors framing the sad "S". Working people in the end...Life goes nicely round in white. You have really beautiful model photos, in darkness, sensitive, sensual, self portrait this one is different but great too. Congrats.

The passage of time always surprises. The ruins always evoke their best times. Image suggestive by the texture of the wood and especially for his composition, which improves the vision of the pier. Congratulations. Best wishes. Vicente.

Thank you so much for your time. I do like what you did to my image and I wish I would have thought of all that. But in a way I kindda like my people at the end of the pier. It gives the image some substance. I appreciate your effort of showign me another way. I might just have to go back there and reshoot it! Now, remember I am Romanian and have been in this country for only 5 years: what is FWIW?

Ioannis, your comment reveals you peotic nature to me. Your portrait metaphor is very touching. Thank you so much for your time and your generous compliments. They honor me!

Vicente, your comment make me want to get in a long philosophical discussion about time. I have always been fascinated with it and I have always known people that have been concerned with its passage. I love the character old things have: people, piers, souls...the are marks of lifeon the surface of anything that has been in existence. It seems that humans want to leave a mark of their existance in time, and time leaves a mark in existing humans.

Diane--you commented on one of my photos long ago and I apologize that I never came to visit your portfolio...I did not catch what you said and didn't realize until today that we're shooting many of the same spots. I'd be willing to bet this old dock is just a short ways down from the Piggly Wiggly. :) If you look at my "Life on the Docks" folder, you'll see that I've been there as well. As a matter of fact, I've spent a few sessions there in the last week trying to perfect one shot I'm working on. Out of curiosity, did you get permission from the Mr. Backman to shoot this dock? I asked one day if I could shoot the seafood dock (where the shrimp boat is) and this dock and he let me for a few minutes then came out all mad and told me to get out that I'd taken enough pictures. He's a little grumpy. :) Be careful here--there are some shall we say "not to classy people" in this area. I was out shooting at twilight the other night and some people walking down the street made me feel a bit uncomfortable. Anyway, I'm sure glad you found this terrific scene and were able to capture such a wonderful image--well done!

This is a fantastic composition. The lighting is great and the image is properly saturated. It reminds me of Pauley's Island in South Carolina in the US.
