richygale 0 Posted October 29, 2007 Super image Micki I love the intense look you have captured, my dog thinks she can catch birds too. Rich. Link to comment
iancoxleigh 0 Posted October 29, 2007 What a great shot Micki. I love the pose/expression. My attention is draw right away to the eye and then along the nose. Don't you just what to tussle this dog's ears while looking at this? I would have thought I'd really be bothered by the background -- but, the energy and business of it somehow echoes the energy-filled tension you've captured in the pose of the dog. Also, the dog stands out nicely from the background everywhere -- there seems to be a bit of helpful back-lighting on the fur. You have a great depth of tonality here too and this works very well as a B&W. I also very much like this toning -- warm without feeling too aged. Link to comment
mvisionphotography 1 Posted October 30, 2007 I too liked the energy of the light. I play with different settings with my 50mm. Now that I look more at it I think more people would have liked it if I would have cropped it closer but I iked the grass. hmmm Link to comment
jan_piller 0 Posted October 30, 2007 I like the grass out front also. Only thing I wanna nitpick about is the brightness on the nose - I might be inclined to darken that up. Great shot though - really wonderful pose! I did a quick fix but I think a better job would show more what I mean. Link to comment
dennis jones 0 Posted October 30, 2007 nice work, but have to agree with Jan... I'll check this one out when I get home next week on I get off this laptop... Link to comment
gordonjb 10,860 Posted October 30, 2007 Nice one. I also think the OOF grass in front goes great with the spectral highlights in the back and I would not crop it out. Link to comment

rogerleekam 0 Posted October 30, 2007 Micki, she's a total ham. I don't know how you get her to strike these natural poses. We'll soon be calling you the "Dog Lady". I love the lighting and composition here. Link to comment
mvisionphotography 1 Posted October 31, 2007 Roger, She is a Ham. I think you would love her. If you talked to me on the phone she would talk to you too. She is a rawr rawr rawr dog. I sit out there on the grass and she sits there for hours just looking at the birds. I shoot away. I was just trying different settings at funny the original one of this one was kind of blue. I would have to go look and see why. BUT, it made it go B&W so crisp. I did nothing but move to B&W. This was all done on manual focus so I have to work at it all. Link to comment
gerfoy3 0 Posted October 31, 2007 Micki, the lighting is WONDERFUL...this is a bit different for you but a REALLY strong image Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted November 1, 2007 Wonderful. What life and energy. With all the highlights going on, IMO, the nose needs the strong highlighting it has. Without the strong light on the nose, a lot of life goes out of the shot. For me that light is the centerpiece of a very strong image. That's exactly where my attention should be drawn here. It's what makes the background highlighting work so excellently. This is a case where the eye doesn't necessarily need the most attention. The directional pull of the nose is great with the strength of your current highlighting and my eye goes there and then is pulled to the eye, creating movement. I'd leave it just as is. I think your instincts were great in this case. The framing, composition, TEXTURES, but again mostly the energy are great here. Link to comment

eye of the lens 0 Posted November 2, 2007 I to love the light and expression of the dog. The dog's focus was so intense your camera didn't distract from what she was doing. Great Job! Link to comment

ldavidson 4 Posted November 6, 2007 Micki, This is such a wonderful dog portrait. The look on the dog's face in so alert and intense. Beautiful sepia tones, the light on the ears and nose is delightful. When I am photographing dogs I like to put a little doggie treat on my head, then I get that look of intense interest. I always get the same expression though. Warm Regards. Link to comment
kellen1 0 Posted November 10, 2007 I had to find the time to come and take a peek at your new work- I love what I see! This whole All New folder is fantastic and I like the way you have really learned how to use different shades of sepia-(or brown duo-tones, as they are sometimes called) You have kept your individuality and I so admire you for that. It is so easy to start wanting your stuff to look like other things that you see, but I see that you are a kite that guides it's own string. (Not my phrase, I borrowed it-but it fits!) mvisionphotography 1 Posted November 13, 2007 Kellen! So glad to hear from you! Yes trying to keep me me! :) YES! AND, doing it with my kite strings. LOVE THAT ;) Link to comment
